SVHS tape, introduced in 1988, is a higher quality version of standard VHS tape.  With 400 lines of resolution, it was terrific for its time.  Newer, smaller and even higher quality digital formats are quickly replacing SVHS as a recording format.  SVHS tapes can be transferred to standard VHS cassettes for playback in any VCR.  All videotapes will deteriorate over time.  Have your tapes transferred to  DVD for the ultimate in convenience and longevity.
