8mm video was introduced in 1980 as an alternative to the larger VHS format camcorders.  With its small size, up to 120 minutes recording time and better- than-VHS quality (270 lines of resolution), it remains an economical format that is still available today.  Your older 8mm videotapes are deteriorating.  Have them transferred to VHS to view on any standard VCR or to DVD for the ultimate in convenience and longevity.
